Introduction of Cerchar Abrasivity Testing

Trilab is pleased to announce the further expansion of its rock testing capacity and capability with the acquisition and successful installation of rock abrasiveness testing equipment in the company’s NATA accredited Brisbane laboratory.  An extensive program of comparison testing and calibration has been completed and accordingly Trilab can now deliver Cerchar Abrasivity testing in accordance with ASTM International standards; the Cerchar Abrasivity test is used to determine wear prediction in hardrock excavation.

“The addition of the Cerchar Abrasivity test to Trilab’s range of services is an example of Trilab’s commitment to servicing client needs and responding to client feedback.  The test provides information that helps clients more accurately plan, estimate and control project costs related to the advancement rate of tunnel boring machines and cutter consumption” said Gavin Hamilton, Chairman of Trilab.

Laboratory Capability, Current Capacity and Turnaround Times

Trilab is also pleased to recently receive positive notification from NATA that the company’s Brisbane and Perth laboratories have successfully passed their recurring 18 month surveillance reviews.  The renewal of the accreditation has been provided in recognition of the competence of the company’s testing facilities.  In granting accreditation, NATA applied Trilab’s two laboratories against the criteria contained within ISO2/IEC3 17025 General Requirements for the Competence of Calibration and Testing Laboratories.  The criteria includes assessment of Trilab’s management experience and qualifications, staff experience and training, calibration and maintenance of equipment, quality assurance procedures, and testing practices.

Trilab has now fully resumed testing following the Christmas break.  Both of the company’s laboratories are now structured to deliver almost immediate turnaround on all of its key tests including Triaxial, Direct Shear, Oedometer, UCS and Permeability.
