Thin Sections and Sample Preparation
Trilab’s expert partner laboratory, Geochempet Services, is a full-service sample preparation laboratory with experienced technicians and fast turnaround.
A thin section is a thin sliver of a mineral or rock sample prepared in a laboratory. A thin section is cut from the sample and ground optically flat using a fine abrasive grit until the sample is thin enough for light to pass through the material in a microscope.

Thin Section Services
Geochempet’s thin sections services include, but not limited to, polished and standard thin section preparation (on natural and man-made materials), polished core preparation as well as other sample preparations.
Geochempet has worked on samples from all around the world including Japan, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Africa, United States of America and Canada. This technical work to produce thin sections has previously included rock samples obtained from meteorites, as well as electronic and project development applications used to evaluate product design to ensure products meet standards.
Our laboratory technicians are highly experienced in handling samples and sample preparation. Our team handle client samples with care, recognising that samples are often very rare and expensive.
