Project Description
Globally diversified gold producer, Gold Fields operates the Granny Smith gold mine in the Eastern Goldfields near Laverton, approximately 740km northeast of Perth, Western Australia. First discovered in 1979, the mine has been producing since 1989, and is among the largest and highest producing gold mines in Australia. The ore is processed on site and the plant has a series of thickened tailings storage facilities (TSF).
Mining and exploration consultants SRK Consulting completed an extensive geotechnical site investigation on the tailings storage facility at the Granny Smith gold mine and engaged Trilab to complete the laboratory testing component of this investigation. Initial samples arrived in December 2023 with the testing involving classification as well as extensive and more complex specialised geotechnical testing.
Trilab’s extensive and specialised soil and rock testing capability and capacity has enabled the support of often complex TSF testing programs, which is expected to grow in coming years.
